Who else wants to understand the Algorithms of Linked In, Facebook and Tik Tok

Algorithms are something that is mentioned a lot in the press and media, but, generally, people misunderstand what they are.

At times they have become digital "boogymen", being responsible for all sorts of misdeeds. However, in all things knowledge is power and the truth is generally in the details.

So what is an algorithm?

According to the lovely people at Techopedia.com

"An algorithm is a step-by-step method of solving a problem. It is commonly used for data processing, calculation and other related computer and mathematical operations.
An algorithm is also used to manipulate data in various ways, such as inserting a new data item, searching for a particular item or sorting an item."

So when it comes to all social media feeds there is an algorithm that will solve the “problem” of what updates and content to put into your feed.

For sharing and being successful on social media this is a vital thing to understand.

As an example Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram are all currently, at the date of publication, using their algorithms to promote video content and paid-for content over organic pictures and text posts.

This means if you share a video on LinkedIn, it will be more likely to appear in the feeds of your audience over just a plain text post.

Do your research and think about how you will engage and post on social media in the future.
